Vittoriale degli Italiani
The “Vittoriale degli Italiani” museum was the home of Gabriele D’Annunzio and is a complex of monuments, relics, buildings, gardens, fountains and streams that the poet wanted to deploy on about nine acres of land on the side of the mountain to which add an outlet to the lake consists of a tower dock. Admission to the museum is in Vittoriale square, surrounded by arches and with the parish church, once inside you will reach the “Pilo del Piave” surmounted by a statue of Henry Minerbi, pursuing, on the right is the open-air theater where you can enjoy the view with the island of Garda and the Rocca of Manerba, then we arrive at ‘Esedra with the temple where the poet remained buried until 1963, then climbing a ladder you reach the Auditorium, where there is the SVA airplane with which D’Annunzio in 1918 flew to Vienna, to the right of the Auditorium is located the Dannunzio’s museum, housed in the building called “Schifamondo” in its porch is the FIAT type 4 with which the poet led the march from Ronchi to Fiume, to the right you see the Aligi driveway that takes you to the Dolphin Fountain, where the water of a river is collect, east of the Schifamondo there is the Prioria, the home of Gabriele D ‘Annunzio (not accessible to the public) which houses the most authentic evidence of the poet’s life, then there is the Mausoleum, inside which are arranged in a circle ten tombs containing the remains of the poet’s heroic comrades of war and in the center those of Gabriele D’Annunzio, since 1963, south of the Mausoleum is located on the “Ship Puglia”, given to him by the Navy, located on a spur and surrounded by a sea of ̷̷green. The Vittoriale is a museum, but during the summer season is also home of the theater season with a series of performances ranging from theater to poetry, ballet and more.
