Castle of Incaffi
Castle of Incaffi, from the Rhaetian castles of the Iron Age to the castle of Castelnuovo dell’Abate of the year one thousand.
Castle of Incaffi: in the Iron Age, between 1000 and 200 B.C., it appears that the Rhaetian castles were present at the Castle of Incaffi as on the hills of the area: Monte San Michele, Monte Moscal, Sant’Andrea; subsequently the Romans occupied the area between 183 BC and the 1st century BC using the existing castellieri. In 899 King Berengario, given the continuous raids of the Hungarians, also granted small rural centers to build towers. Towards the eleventh century the area was headed by the church and monastery of Sant’Andrea, dependent on the Abbey of San Zeno of Verona, and since then a territory of Castenuovo dell’Abate has been named that included the localities of Affi, Incaffi, Ari , part of Cavaion and Caorsa, managed by a prior who resided in the new castle that was located on the eastern side of Mount Moscal, the current town of Castello.
