Church of St.George

On the shores of Lake Manerba del Garda in Valtenesi

Church of St.George, which is in the locality of S.Giorgio, dates back to the 14th century. The structure is made up of a single classroom with Romanesque apse, semicircular; The façade was subsequently changed towards the end of the sixteenth century, a pronaos was added at the beginning of the seventeenth century; It houses interesting 14th-century frescoes, especially on the left wall, where the figure of a saint, perhaps Santa Catherine, with a red dress and elegant portraiture stands out, on the same wall the San Giorgio fresco that frees the princess from dragon; In the background a rocky landscape with a church and a castle, recalling Manerba. It enjoys a beautiful panoramic position near the shores of the lake, and is open on some occasions such as the celebration of St. George’s Day, which runs on April 23rd.
