Clock tower
Clock tower
Place of the meetings of the administration of Torri del Benaco
Clock tower was used by the XVI century for meetings of the Council of Twenty Four, the administrative organ of “Vicinia“, which was held inside the tower at the sound of the bell. Over the centuries the tower underwent some renovations, the first of which in 1531, a second bell was added in 1552 and in 1561 the clock was added. After the various renovations, a guardian of the tower was assigned to play the bells and watch the building. In 1585 a fire broke out that destroyed the tower, but was quickly restored and restarted. Towards the end of 800 the seat of the Municipality was moved and the tower lost its importance even if used for other purposes, but the watch continued to mark the hours until the second part of the thirties. Since the 1950s, began to run some sales until 2000 when it was bought by a Carpi family.
