HISTORY OF MONIGA DEL GARDA
Moniga has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, this news is sure because in locality “Porto” was found a dwelling site diver. It is thought that its name derives from the presence of a sanctuary dedicated to Diana Muchina a goddess of Athens. In the municipality of Moniga houses a Roman tombstone which was brought to light during the excavations of building renovation. The castle built in the tenth century has been renovated several times, we can see down the hill that slopes down to the lake, formed by a wall topped by the tower, is thought to be dated the fourteenth and fifteenth century. To date, the tower was used as a bell tower of the parish church while inside private homes have been built. Moniga from the administrative side was part of the Province of Brescia and in regard to the church was headed by the diocese of Verona.
