HISTORY OF POLPENAZZE
The evidence of the first settlements in the area of Polpenazze date back to the fourth millennium BC when a group of people settled near the basin of the lake Lucone in a dwelling village where they lived by hunting and fishing. After two millennium Roman larger group settled in the area for nearly ten centuries, after which other groups that came from Gaul chose to stay on these hills. Following the colonization of the entire Po valley these populations were integrated into Roman culture. In the middle of the fifteenth century exactly 29 August 1454, 38 heads of families approved and confirmed the Statutes of the Commune. The documents we learn that all the decisions were a matter assembly of householders original call Vicinia. In these assemblies were elected members of a council narrower in which rotation was elected a Consul. Many famous people of this country including the Filippini family, Giovanni Omodeo who created an artificial lake by introducing the use of intensive farming and bringing electricity and running water. Here in Polpenazze in 1965 where before there was the lake Lucone objects were found dating back to the Bronze Age, a canoe carved from a tree trunk 4 meters long and casts along with an original is preserved in the Museum of Gavardo.
