The Valpolicella marble known all over the world
Marble Prun quarries of Valpolicella, most of them are located on the eastern slopes of Mount Noroni, between Marano and Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo, and can be in the tunnel or open sky; Here you can see the various rocky layers of the Venetian Scaglia Rossa that is composed of 7 layers of about seven meters each (only 67 usable). The layers, separated by a thin layer of clay, take different names depending on the color, the location, the ease of extraction, their use. Its color varies from red to red, the Romans used it for flooring, monuments and fountains; Later it was used to embellish the buildings, first religious and then also private ones. Feature is the presence of prehistoric fossils that are noticeable in the most thick and “natural” slabs, while, due to its clay component, it tends to lose the flakes over time.
