Montalbano Sanctuary
The church of Santa Maria of Monte Albano is dedicated to Our Lady of the Annunciation , built in 1556 , stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking Mori.
Montalbano Sanctuary, to achieve this we use the same trail that climbs from Mori and get to the ruins of the castle of Albano. Before arriving to the sanctuary, which is located on top of a rustic staircase and which is preceded by a small churchyard , you will find two shrines of the seventeenth century. Next to the shrine there is a building where they were staying the hermits who were in charge of guarding the church. It was built in 1567 , its gabled structure is very simple and is surmounted by an octagonal lantern . It has a bell tower with mullioned windows and floors covered by a spire . On the side of the tower that faces the valley is placed a clock by four meters in diameter, illuminated at night. The facade has a portal by Luigi Bombana adorned with reliefs of six and two side windows with profiles baroque red marble made ̷̷in 1757 by the sculptor Valentino Lucchi . Inside are the blades of the altar in the Baroque style depicting episodes from the life of Christ and the beautiful paintings of the seventeenth century by Gasparantonio Cavalcabò ; era are the main altar by the sculptor Domenico Rossi said Manentino , author also altars in polychrome marble in the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the chancel arch , while more recent the altar of St. Joseph , the work of Benedetti and that of St. Anthony , the work of Scanagatta in the ‘300s.
On the portal there are inscribed the dates important to the community of Mori: 1556 construction of the sanctuary ; 5.8.1730 , vow to the Madonna because it spared by the advance of the French Vendome ; 1890 ceases the Habsburg Empire and Mori became Italian; 1855 cholera epidemic , 1914-18 and 1940-45 , the two world wars.
The Sanctuary is also linked to the figure of St. Joseph, whose feast we celebrate March 19
