Roman excavations of Peschiera
Near the church of San Martino, in the center of the village you can visit the Roman remains of a settlement.
Roman excavations of Peschiera show the remains of an inhabited area probably from the 1st century BC at a point where the important road that led from Verona to Milan exceeded the Mincio; the built-up area was placed in the 2nd century and reused until the 4th century AD; these are probably residential and artisanal units. On the north side we can see the base of a house that opens onto a pavement court. It can be seen that the floor has different floors: mosaic, stone chips and cocciopesto. To the south there are some rooms to which it is difficult to give a destination of use. Towards the end of the last century, a part was buried because of little importance.
